Frequently Asked Questions

What insurances are accepted?
Sustain Physical Therapy and Performance is an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. This allows us the opportunity to focus 100% of our attention and efforts on helping YOU through one-on-one 60-minute treatment sessions, rather than putting our energy into battling with insurance companies. We can give you the care and experience you deserve, not just the treatment that pays the most. Period. Here is a helpful guide on: Why Cash PT is better.
Can I use my out-of-network insurance benefits?
The best way to learn about your potential reimbursement would be to call the number on the back of your insurance card, and ask “what are my Out-of-Network Physical Therapy benefits?” Here is a helpful guide sheet to help you gain some insight into what to expect: Out of Network Insurance Guide.
How do I schedule an appointment?
You can schedule your FREE discovery call and take your first step by clicking here.
If you’d prefer to jump right on a phone call you can reach us at (617) 936-8631
Do you accept HSA/FSA benefits?
Yes! We can accept HSA and FSA benefits.
Do I need to see my doctor before coming for physical therapy?
No. Massachusetts is a Direct Access state, and that means you can come directly to PT without a prescription from your doctor. In our evaluation, we will screen for things that might require more intervention and refer out if needed. But being able to go right to PT can save time (and money), and get you back to feeling better quicker.
How long are sessions?
All sessions are 60 minutes, spent completely 1-on-1 with your Doctor of Physical Therapy.
How many physical therapy visits will I need?
This is dependent on what you’ve got going on, but most of our patients only need between 6-10 visits. An accurate estimation can be made after your initial evaluation.
How often are appointments?
It depends on your goals/injury and how quickly you want to get to your goals. We typically see personal training clients an average of 2x/week and physical therapy clients 1-3x/week depending on where in their recovery cycle they are.
What sort of injuries do you treat?
Neck Pain, Back Pain, Shoulder Pain, Hip Pain, Knee Pain, Ankle Pain, Foot Pain, Rotator Cuff Injuries, Tendonitis / Tendinosis, Sprain / Strains, Plantars Fasciitis, Runners / Jumpers Knee, Overuse Injuries, Postural Dysfunctions, Sports Related Injuries, AND MORE! Learn more about how we treat on our Performance Physical Therapy page.
What should I wear to my appointments?
Comfortable workout attire. We’ll be moving a lot, so whatever you’re comfortable moving in is perfect. If you prefer working out in pants, it is best to bring a pair of shorts as well.
Do you have a place to change into athletic clothes?
Yes, we have a changing room, lockers, and complimentary toiletries available.
Do I need an X-ray or MRI before coming to physical therapy?
No, in most cases. We will discuss your injury history more on your discovery call and can advise if imaging is needed prior to coming in. If you already have had imaging done, we may ask you to send us a copy to review prior to your appointment.
Are all sessions in-person?
We offer in-person sessions as well as virtual options. So if you’re looking for “physical therapy near me” you can come to our physical therapy clinic in Boston, MA. Otherwise, we can meet virtually over Zoom or FaceTime. We also offer online programming for self-led workouts.
